During the holy month of Ramadan, a consortium of nine nations, including Bangladesh, has dispatched 2,000 tons of food and medical supplies to assist the residents of the Gaza Strip in Palestine.

The relief effort, facilitated by the Al Azhar Zakat and Charity House, an organization affiliated with Al Azhar University in Egypt, marks the largest shipment of aid to Gaza since the onset of the conflict on October 7.

Apart from Bangladesh, the contributing countries comprise Indonesia, India, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, France, China, Canada, and Germany.

According to Abdel-Alim Kashta, a spokesperson for Al-Azhar Zakat and Charity, the relief convoy will enter Gaza via Egypt's North Sinai region through the Rafah border crossing.

He noted that the organization has dispatched a total of 4,000 tons of relief and humanitarian aid since the cessation of hostilities in Gaza on October 7 until the commencement of Ramadan, with the last aid shipment occurring in December.

However, this current relief effort stands out as the largest among all previous shipments, coordinated through donations from 80 countries, with significant contributions from the nine aforementioned nations.
