Yesterday afternoon, on the way to the United Arab Emirates through the Indian Ocean, a Bangladeshi flag-bearing ship named MV Abdullah was hijacked by Somali pirates. The ship is manned by 23 Bangladeshi sailors. Terrifying threats have come from the pirates; if the ransom is not paid, they have threatened to kill the Bangladeshi sailors one by one.

The Chief Officer of the ship Md. Atiq Ullah Khan has sent an audio message to his wife via mobile phone. The message has reached the media.

In the audio message, Atiq Ullah Khan says, "Let everyone hear this message. We are sending this message with a mobile phone we have with us. The final word is, if money is not paid here, they have told to kill each one of us one by one. They will release us as soon as they receive the money. Spread this message to everyone."

Notably, before yesterday, at one-thirty Bangladesh time, the pirates took control of the ship. The ship was heading from Mozambique to Dubai. The Kabir Group from Chittagong is managing this ship, with support from their associate organization S.R. Shipping Limited. Atiq Ullah Khan and 23 Bangladeshi sailors are on board. Since the news broke out, the relatives of the sailors have been living in anxiety and distress.
