Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal today said the price of daily commodities is increasing due to “more profit” than “extortion”. However, the Dhaka-Chattogram highway has already been brought under camera to stop extortion. In the future, all highways will be covered by CCTVs.
He said these after the opening ceremony of the Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Security Course at Bangladesh Police Staff College in Mirpur in the capital on Saturday (March 23).
“Businessmen are more influenced by the idea of higher profits than by extortion of product prices,” said the Home Minister. “We have seen in the statistics – more than the purchase price of the product, transportation cost or extortion, businessmen are more concerned about profit! This is why, the price of daily commodities increases.”
When asked what actions would be taken against the more profitable businessmen, he said that apart from the law enforcers, various forces including Consumer Rights (DNCRP) are working. Whenever these issues come under the notice of law enforcers, they perform their assigned duties.
By discussing with those who are making more profit, it will be “possible to prevent” the increase in the price of products if the sale of daily commodities starts in the neighborhood, the Home Minister also said.
Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that there have been several fire incidents within a few months. There was a lot of damage to properties. These incidents have influenced the increase in commodity prices. All fire incidents are under investigation.
At this time, Md. Mostafizur Rahman, senior secretary of the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Moshiur Rahman, Rector of Police Staff College (Additional IGP) Dr. Mallik Fakhrul Islam, and others were present.
