Tragic Electrocution Claims 6 Lives Of The Same Family In Moulvibazar

In a tragic incident of electrocution in Moulvibazar, Sonia Sultana (8), a child who suffered 25 percent burns on her body, succumbed to injuries. Before that, her parents and three siblings died in the same incident.

Sonia died in the early hours of Wednesday (March 27). She was studying in the second grade at the local Goalbari North Government Primary School.

Yesterday (Tuesday, March 26) Sonia's parents and three siblings also died due to electrocution. She was the only survivor among the family members.

SM Zakir Hossain, a resident of East Goalbari, who arranged Sonia's treatment in Dhaka, told the media that the electrocuted child Sonia Sultana was brought to Dhaka for treatment. She died around 4 am today after being taken to Dhaka's Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for advanced treatment from Sylhet. We could not save him.

Sonia's uncle Abdul said that Sonia was first admitted to Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet. Doctors said that 25 percent of her body was burnt. She was taken to Dhaka on Tuesday night for better treatment. She died shortly after arriving there. He (Abdul) also added that he was returning home with her (Sonia) body.

Earlier yesterday, five people including three children of the same family died due to electrocution in Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar. The deceased are Faizur Rahman (52), his wife Siri Begum (45), their daughters Samia Begum (16) and Sabina (13) and son Sayem (10).

According to their relatives and the police, after Fajr prayers on Tuesday morning, an electric wire fell on the tin house due to the storm and the entire house was electrified.

The police said that the terrified family members were electrocuted when they tried to leave the house.
