Four members of the same family were burnt in a fire caused by the explosion of gas accumulated in the house from a gas cylinder leakage in Dhaka's Dhamrai. Three of them are in critical condition.

Today Wednesday (March 27) around 3:30 am, the incident took place in a flat on the ground floor of the 4-storey building of Ibrahim Hossain, a resident of Mokamtola area of Ward No. 2 of Dhamrai Municipality

The victims are the tenant of the flat, Nurul Islam (55), his wife Sufia Begum (50), daughter Nishrat Jahan Sathi (21), a student of MBBS, and son HSC candidate Al Hadi Sohag (18).

Among them, Nurul Islam suffered 48 percent burns, Sufia Begum suffered 80 percent burns, Sohag Hossain suffered 38 percent burns and Nisrat Jahan Sathi sustained 16 percent burns.

They have been admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Relatives said, Sufia Begum went to the kitchen to cook for Sahri. As soon as she lit the gas stove, there was an explosion and fire from the accumulated gas in the entire flat. Four of them were burnt. Later local people rescued them and took them to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex with 50 beds. As their condition was critical, they were sent to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. In this incident, several items including the furniture of the flat were burnt.

Dhamrai Fire Service Station official Sohel Rana said that besides Titas' residential gas connection, they also used cylinder gas during the gas crisis. It can be confirmed after investigation whether this incident happened from gas cylinder or residential gas connection. However, there was no gas cylinder explosion. In the fire, the goods of the house worth about two lakh taka were burnt.
