The parliamentary committee on law and order has recommended extending the Eid holiday by one more day. The recommendation to observe the holiday on April 9 has been conveyed to journalists by the committee's chairman and Minister of Liberation War Affairs, AKM Mozammel Haque. A decision will be made at a meeting scheduled for tomorrow (April 1).

Today (March 31), a meeting of the parliamentary committee on law and order was held in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association demanded an extension of the Eid holiday to reduce traffic congestion, passenger distress, and road accidents on April 8 and 9. The demand was made by M. Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, the secretary-general of the Bangladesh Passenger Welfare Association, at a press conference organized by the Dhaka Reporters' Unity on March 27.

It is worth mentioning that fasting began on March 12. The observance of Eid-ul-Fitr depends on the sighting of the moon. However, the probable holiday days for Eid have already been determined as April 10, 11, and 12. If this holds true, then the following day, April 13, will be a Saturday, a weekly holiday. The next day, April 14, is Pohela Boishakh, which is also a government holiday. This means a total of five days of holiday are guaranteed. And if an additional day of holiday is added due to administrative order, the total holiday period will increase.
