Schedule For 121 Upazila Polls To Be Announced Today

The Election Commission (EC) may announce the schedule for the second phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad election today (Monday). In this phase, the schedule for 121 upazilas may be announced. The first phase voting to 152 upazilas will be held on May 8. The 30th meeting of the Election Commission will be held on Monday in the conference room of the election building in Agargaon. In it, the issue of the schedule of the second phase of upazila elections has been kept. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal will preside over the meeting. 

EC Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath said that the 30th meeting of the Commission will be held on Monday. If the commission gives a decision in this meeting, then the schedule of the second phase upazila parishad election can be announced.

The Awal Commission has already announced the schedule of the first phase of the sixth upazila election. According to the EC schedule, 152 upazila parishad elections will be held in the first phase on May 8. The last date for submission of nomination papers is April 15. Nomination papers scrutinising on April 17. Appeal against the Returning Officer's decision from 18 to 20 April. Appeal disposal 21 April, last date for withdrawal of candidature 22 April. Allotment of symbols is on April 23, and voting will be on May 8.

Upazila Election Officers have been appointed as District Election Officers and Assistant Returning Officers in Upazila Elections. The next three phases polls will be held on May 23, 29 and June 5. The total number of upazilas in the country is 495.
