RMG Workers Protest In Gazipur For Wages And Eid Bonus

Garment workers staged a demonstration demanding their salary and Eid bonus before the festival at Konabari Zarun area of Gazipur city on Monday morning. At this time workers of Kaya Net Composite Ltd. is protesting against the declaration of annual holiday in Konbari Baghrun area of Gazipur metropolis. Workers of Kaya Knit Composite Limited factory started this demonstration by blocking the Konabari-Kashimpur regional road at 6 am.

According to factory workers and police sources, the factory authorities have not paid the salary for the month of February and the Eid bonus, despite the promise. There are about 8000 workers in the factory. Many of the workers are deaf and disabled. On Sunday, the factory authorities started arguing when they asked for salary and bonus. The workers started protesting in the factory from 6 am this morning demanding salary and bonus. At one point, they took a position in front of the factory on the Konabari-Kashimpur regional road.

After receiving the information, Shilpa Police and Thana Police came to the spot. The police tried to convince the workers to move them off the road. However, the workers were still protesting around 10:30 in the morning.

Saiful Islam, a worker of the factory said, “Eid is knocking at the door. However, we didn’t receive our monthly salary. We want our payment.

However, no statement was received from the factory authorities in this regard.

In this regard, the administrative officer of the factory, Sumon Mia said, 'The workers will get their February salary and bonus from us. It is announced that they will be paid in full. But if they don't work, how can we give salary and bonus?'

Confirming the matter, Konabari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) KM Ashraf Uddin said police forces were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
