Fatal Train-Truck Collision: Death Toll Rises To 6

Death toll rises to 6 on the collission of Train and Truck. It is reported that Chattogram-bound mail train hit a sand-carrying truck at Fazilpur in Feni.

This accident happened on Friday morning (April 5) when a truck crossed the railway line from Ripon Chairman's Balughat in an area called Pubali.

Among the six were including passengers travelling in front of the engine compartment.

Gateman Md Saidul, who fled after the incident, was allegedly absent when the truck got on the railway lines at the level crossing in the Muhuriganj Bridge Crossing area between Fazilpur and Muhuriganj railway stations on Friday morning, said Superintendent of Police Md Zakir Hossain.

The three victims who were travelling in front of the engine compartment are Rifat, 16, Sazzad, 16, and Din Mohammad, 22, from Cumilla’s Chauddagram.

The others are truck driver Md Mizan, 32, from Barishal, his assistant Abul Khayer, 40, from Cumilla’s Laksam, and Khayer’s son Ashik, 14.

Full names of all the victims were not available yet.

Meanwhile Shah Alam, assistant sub-inspector of Government Railway Police, said Mizan and Khayer were declared dead at Feni 250-Bed General Hospital. Ashik died after he was transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Rifat, Sazzad and Din Mohammad are from Chiora Union Council in Chauddagram.

Md Abu Taher, chairman of the union council, said the three young men were travelling to Chattogram from Hasanpur Railway Station. They died on the spot, he said.

Feni Stationmaster Mohammad Haraun said the Chattogram Mail Train’s front part was also damaged when it dashed the truck.

The train was brought back to Fazilpur station and left for Chattogram at 11:45am after repair.

Md Hasan Imam, chief of Chhagalnaiya Police Station, said railway workers removed the crushed truck from the tracks.

The bodies of Mizan and Khayer were sent to the General Hospital for autopsy.

SP Zakir said the barrier at the level crossing was not lowered when the train arrived.

“We’ve learnt that the gateman was absent at the time of the incident. He is absconding,” he said and added legal steps will be initiated over the incident.
