Intense passenger pressure was observed at the Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital since early morning on Monday, two days ahead of the start of Eid holidays, prompting authorities to boost security measures and coach numbers.

Passengers now have to cross two checkposts before entering platforms while those without a valid ticket are being sent home as additional security measures seek to avoid chaos at the rail station and prevent a schedule breakdown.

The security moves have eased ticketing processes and ensured a crowd-free wait for passengers before they can start their journey back towards ancestral village homes. Though no new train has been deployed, inclusion of new coaches to existing trains has helped assure passengers that they will be able to celebrate Eid with near and dear ones.

As of 11am on Monday morning, passengers at the Kamalapur railway station said they did not see any delays in boarding of trains.

Until 10.30am, at least 20 trains had left the station and there were no noticeable delays, Station Manager Masud Sarwar told reporters.

About 25% of the available seats have been put on sale in advance on the request of passengers to facilitate smooth Eid journeys.
