An explosion occurred due to gas leakage in Bhashantek area of Mirpur in the capital. Six people of the same family including women and children were burnt. The incident took place in Bhashantek 13 Culbert Road area in the early hours of Friday (April 12).

The victims are Mehrunnecha (65), Surjo Banu (30), Liza (18), Lamia (7), Sujon (9) and Md. Liton (52).

It is known that the explosion occurred due to the leakage of the gas cylinder while catching the mosquito coil. 6 people including women and children of the same family were burnt. Later, around 5:30 AM, they were rescued and taken to the emergency department of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery resident doctor Dr. Tariqul Islam said that six people, including women and children, were brought to the emergency department of the burn unit from Vasantek in Mirpur early this morning. Among them Mehrunnessar 47 percent, Surjo Banu 82 percent, Lamia 55 percent, Md. Liton suffered 67 percent burns, Liza 30 percent and Sujan 43 percent. They are currently under observation in the emergency department.

He also said that the condition of all of them is critical due to the extent of burns.

Rifat Hossain, caretaker of the house, said that a furniture trader named Liton Mia lives on the ground floor of the house with his family. Last night around four o'clock when they went to light the mosquito coil, 6 members of the family were burnt due to the explosion of gas accumulated from the leakage of the gas cylinder in the house.

He said the gas cylinder was outside the house. But the stove was connected to the house through a pipe. As there is leakage in the connection of that stove, gas accumulates in the house. The mosquito coil catches fire as soon as it is lit. Later, we brought them to the Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute in a burnt condition around five in the morning.
