3 Among 5 Sadarghat Victims Laid To Eternal Rest

Three of a family among five people who died from a broken mooring line at the capital's Sadarghat were buried on Saturday morning in Mothbaria of Pirojpur today.

The three deceased from the same family are - Bellal Hossain (26), son of Abdul Khalek of Khair Ghaticora area of ​​Daudkhali UP of Mathbaria, Billah Hossain's wife Mukta Khatun and their daughter Maisha Akhtar (04).

Among them, the dead bodies of Mukta Khatun and Maisha were buried in Mukta Khatun's father's house and Bellal Hossain was buried in his uncle's house at Drevatra village of the upazila.

Kamrul Munsi, a cousin of the deceased Bellal, said that Bellal lived in Gazipur with his wife and children. He used to work in a garment factory in Gazipur. He was going to his village home on Eid day with his family members to spend the Eid holidays. The incident occurred around 3:00pm while two launches -- Farhan 10 and Farhan 6 -- were trying to dock between two other launches -- Tipu 13 and Tasrif 1 -- at one of the pontoons.

The docking attempt in the tight spot caused the mooring line of launch Tasrif 4 docked next to the Tipu 13 to snap under pressure.

Monir Hossain, assistant to the driver of Tasrif 4, said, "BIWTA officials had asked us to loosen our mooring line as the launches were trying to dock in a tight spot. But before we could do that, our mooring line broke and hit five people standing at the entrance of the Pubali launch, which was docked to the left of our launch [Tasrif-4]."

Both Farhan-6 and Tasrif-4 operated on the Dhaka-Betua route. Betua is in Bhola's Char Fession.

Shafiqul Islam, OC of Mathbaria police station, said that the bodies of the victims were brought from Dhaka to their village homes. Later, the police provided full cooperation to complete the burial along with maintaining law and order.
