1,891 Candidates File Nomination Forms For 1st Phase Upazila Elections

A total of 1, 891 candidates today submitted nomination forms to vie for three posts in 150 upazilas' elections to be held in the first phase on May 8.

Of the 1,891 candidates, 696 filed nomination forms for the posts of chairman, 724 for vice chairman and 471 for the post of woman vice chairman.

"Today was the last day for nomination paper submission . . . this year candidates were allowed to file nomination papers online only," said Election Commission (EC) additional secretary Ashok Kumar Devnath.

According to the schedule, nomination papers will be scrutinized on April 17 and appeals against the decision of returning officers can be filed on April 18-20. Appeals will be settled on April 21 and deadline for withdrawal of candidatures is April 22.
