Tragic Head-On Collision Claims 13 Lives In Faridpur

Thirteen people, four of them from the same family were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a pickup truck. The accident took place at the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Kanaipur Union under Faridpur Sadar upazila on Tuesday at 8 am.

The four people killed in the family are Rafiq Molla (35), his wife Sumi Begum (23), two sons Ruhan Molla (6), Habib Molla (3), and Marjina Begum (70), wife of Wahab Molla of Bejidanga village in Boalmari, Faridpur. Rafiq was working as a liftman in a government office in Dhaka. After the Eid holiday, he was going to Dhaka in a pickup van with his mother, wife, and two sons.

The injured are Sonia (25), wife of Milton Sheikh of Alfadanga, Surya (60) of Hidadanga village, Nazrul Islam (35), son of Sirajul Islam of Kusumdi village. So far 9 people have been identified. Apart from this, Khuria Begum (70), sister of the deceased Rakibul, was injured in the accident.

According to local sources, a Magura-bound Unique Paribahan bus collided with a Dhaka-bound pickup, leaving 11 people dead on the spot. Two more died later at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.

Karimpur highway police station Officer-in-Charge Md Salauddin Chowdhury said after receiving the information, the bodies of the deceased were recovered. It is believed that a family was returning to Dhaka after the Eid holiday by renting a pickup.
