2 Teknaf Fishermen Injured By Gunfire From Myanmar Navy

Two fishermen from Shah Porir Dwip in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf have been injured by gunfire from what they claim to be a ship of the Myanmar Navy. The incident took place around 10:30 am on Sunday in the Naikhongdia area of the Naf river.

The injured are Mohammad Farooq, son of Mohammad Siddiq of Dakshinpara area of Shah Pori Dwip in Teknaf and Mohammad Ismail of the Middle Dale area.

The fishermen received bullets while returning to the lake through the Naf River after fishing with the trawler of Siddik in the Maherpara area of Shah Porir Dwip in the sea. 

Two injured have been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital. However, the condition of Farooq among is said to be critical.

Fisherman Mohammad Yusuf said that they were returning to the Shah Porir Dwip after fishing in the sea near St. Martin. At that time, a ship of the Myanmar Navy was crossing them in the area adjacent to Naikhongdia. Suddenly our trawler was fired from that ship. Two fishermen were hit by a bullet in this.

Yusuf also said, "We were in the Bangladesh waters of the Naf river and were pointing at them not to shoot by raising our hands, showing the Bangladeshi flag." Still, they were continuously fired upon, resulting in two people being shot. The others remained unharmed."

Teknaf police station OC Mohammad Osman Gani said that the fishermen were fired upon while returning from the sea. Two fishermen were injured in the indiscriminate firing. They are under treatment at Sadar Hospital.
