26 Candidates Elected Unopposed In 1st Phase

Seven chairmen, nine vice chairmen and 10 female vice chairmen were elected unopposed in the first phase of Upazila Parishad (UP) elections. The Election Commission (EC) said that this number may increase when the final list comes.

On Tuesday (March 23), the returning officers of the concerned upazila elections declared those candidates elected, said the officials of the election management branch of the EC.

Among them seven persons were elected as chairman, nine as vice chairman and 10 as female vice chairman were elected unopposed.

Vice chairman and female vice chairman in Baliadangi (Thakurgaon) upazila, female vice chairman in Hakimpur (Dinajpur) upazila, Chairman in Saghata (Gaibandha) upazila, female vice chairman in Bera (Pabna) upazila, Chairman of Singra (Nator) upazila and female vice chairman of Kushtia Sadar were elected unopposed. 

Besides, three posts in Bagerhat Sadar, three posts in Munshiganj Sadar and three posts in Shibchar (Madaripur) were also elected unopposed.

Besides, female vice-chairman in Barlekha (Moulvibazar) upazila, three posts in Parshuram (Feni) upazila, vice chairman in Sandwip (Chattogram) upazila, vice chairman in Cox’s Bazar Sadar, Chairman post of Rowangchhari (Bandarban) upazila and vice chairman in Kaukhali (Rangamati) upazila were elected unopposed.

The EC has given the schedule for the sixth UP elections to be held in four phases. 150 upazilas in the first phase and 160 upazilas are expected to vote in the second phase. UP polls in 112 upazilas in the third phase will be held on May 29 and 55 upazilas in the fourth phase will be polled on June 5.
