Will Halt Works If Aedes Larvae Found Inside Under-Construction Building: Taposh

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has warned that he would stop works if larvae of Aedes mosquito are found inside any under-construction building in the city area.

Under-construction building contributes a lot as a large breeding ground for Aedes mosquitoes, Taposh said, citing a research report while talking to reporters after inspecting the progress of the renovation work of Kazi Bashir Auditorium in Gulistan area of Dhaka on Wednesday.

He emphasised the pivotal responsibility of developer companies, particularly the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and warned that he would take stern action if they failed to cooperate with the ongoing efforts.

He said that the campaign to control the spread of dengue would be conducted from May, which is the key breeding period of Aedes mosquitoes. Action plans have already been devised by the DSCC, to make the efforts successful, he added.

The DSCC will hold view exchange meetings with stakeholders at various levels including the police administration, Rajuk, Railway and the Public Works Directorate to ensure continuous monitoring of the under-construction establishments.
