The Dhaka North City Corporation has begun spraying roads with water as Bangladesh bakes in a heatwave in an effort to bring a spot of relief to residents of the capital. Though some areas were sprayed last week, the initiative was officially inaugurated by Mayor Atiqul Islam in Agargaon on Saturday.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam announced the introduction of artificial rain to offer cooling relief to residents amid the sweltering heat.
Two spray cannon vehicles, each capable of dispersing 400,000 litres of water per day, will operate from 11am to 4pm.
Last week, the Dhaka North authorities introduced spraying water on the streets to abate heatwave.
Mayor Atiq said to address narrower lanes, smaller water spraying vehicles will be deployed. The DNCC has 10 such vehicles at its disposal.
He also instructed officials to extend artificial rain to parks and sports fields within a week, enhancing public comfort further.
Additionally, 200 distribution vans have been mobilized to provide drinking water across various areas, prioritizing parks and sports fields.
