EC Alamgir: Heatwave Will Not Deter Upazila Parishad Voters

Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir said people would vote in the Upazila Parishad polls despite the heatwave.  "The election did not stop in our neighboring country India due to the scorching heat. Earlier, elections were held in our country during a heatwave as well,” He said this in response to a question from reporters at a view exchange meeting organized by the Rajbari district administration on Monday.

Regarding the upazila election, EC Alamgir said: "There are enough trees in each polling centres. There will be adequate pure drinking water on the voting day. In every election in the past, the number of voters was also good.”

He added apart from security measures, an adequate number of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members, police and Ansar will be deployed during the upazila parishad elections.

The Upazila Parishad elections will proceed in four phases, with 152 upazilas in the first phase on May 8. Of the upazilas, elections to 22 upazilas will be held through electronic voting machines (EVMs) and 130 on ballot papers.

The second phase will be held on May 23, the third phase on May 29, and the fourth phase on June 5.
