People planning to perform Hajj this year can apply for visas until May 7, Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB) President M Shahadat Hossain Taslim said on Tuesday (April 30).

“Responding to the request of our religious affairs minister, Saudi Arabia has extended the application period for Hajj visas for Bangladeshis from April 29 to May 7,” he said.

In this regard, the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Monjurul Haque, said, “We applied to extend the Hajj visa application period and it was granted. However, we are yet to receive the official letter.”

Hajj flights will start on May 9. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate this year’s Hajj flights on May 8.

Last year, about two million Muslims from all over the world went to Mecca to perform Hajj. Last year, the highest number of pilgrims visited Mecca after the covid pandemic. It is expected that more people will come to perform Hajj this time.
