Education Minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury Nowfel today said that secondary education institutions will remain closed on Thursday as per the court order.

He said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday (April 30).

“We are not officially aware of the specifics so far. I saw it in the media. We respect the court order. I will not comment at this time,” the Education Minister said, mentioning that “silence is a sign of acquiescence” (Court-ordered closure of secondary schools).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has announced the closure of all secondary and higher secondary level educational institutions in 27 districts of the country including Dhaka.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has announced the closure of all primary schools in the country until next Thursday. Wednesday, May Day (May 1), is a public holiday. As a result, all educational institutions will be closed on that day.

Earlier, the High Court had ordered the closure of all primary, secondary, and equivalent level madrasa classes from Monday till Thursday (May 2). However, this order will not apply in the case of English medium schools and educational institutions which have AC and are conducting public examinations.
