Amid the global Corona epidemic, 70 percent of expatriates returned from abroad in February to June are living in extreme crisis due to lack of income, according to a survey.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has conducted a survey of returnees in 12 districts of the country.

In a press release, the IOM said that about 70 percent of those surveyed said they had lost their income and 55 percent said they had a debt burden.

It says that in the case of loans taken from moneylenders or people who lend money at interest, 62 percent of the borrowers have to calculate the interest from 50 to 150 percent. About 75 percent of those surveyed said they were interested in immigrating again, and that 97 percent wanted to return to the country where they worked before the Corona epidemic.

Shariful Hasan, head of the immigration program at BRAC, one of the world's largest non-governmental development organizations based in Bangladesh, was asked for his views on the IOM's survey data.
Considering the contribution of migrant workers, an action plan should be made to alleviate their problems and sufferings so that they can get some relief from this misery.
