Scientists say that cutting down trees and creating crop fields and building houses are increasing the chances of spreading germs that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
According to a study, deforestation of natural forests has resulted in the escape of wild animals. And in their place come all the animals from which the disease spreads among the people.
Scientists have estimated that three out of every four newly discovered infectious diseases originate from such animals.
According to the study, deforestation has benefited infectious disease-carrying animals.
And when we clear forests, create crop fields, create pastures, or build settlements, the risk of disease transmission from animals to humans increases a lot, the study says.
How does the change in the natural land increase the disease?
Many wildlife are now on the verge of extinction as a result of deforestation and the creation of farms and homes.
Long-lived animals, such as rhinos, which require a special kind of environment to live in, deforestation increases the chances of reproduction in their place, and all animals that survive less, such as rats or pigeons.
Rats, which carry a number of pathogens, increase their numbers in urban areas because all other species have become extinct there.
The study analyzed data from 184 studies on 7,000 species, showing that 376 of them carried all the germs that could spread to humans.
