The Rule of Law is Not the Same for Everyone

While the hasty arrest of Erfan Selim, son of MP Haji Selim, has been praised, there are many questions also raised. The news of the torture cell of Erfan Selim's house is now known. So what was not before?

And in this case, what would be the remedy if it was with the common people and not with the naval officer?

Erfan and his associates were arrested in the Kalabagan area on Sunday night after Erfan's vehicle collided with the navy's lieutenant Wasif Ahmed's motorbike and he beat the officer. Their homes and offices were raided from noon tonight on Monday. Drugs, weapons, walkie-talkies, ropes, bones and many more were recovered from the house. Rab calls it Torture Cell. It is also believed that they have more torture cells in that area. Following Monday's raid, a RAB mobile court sentenced Erfan and his accomplices to one and a half years in prison for illegal weapons and drugs. And there is a case of attempted murder filed by a naval officer against them.

Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam told the media on Tuesday, "The case against Haji Selim's son will be investigated without any influence.'' But were there no previous allegations against Haji Selim and his son? What was the pressure then? The occupation of the land of old Dhaka, the occupation of the Buriganga is known to all' It could not be kept free from occupation even after conducting more than one operation' After Haji Selim came under pressure, they recovered the land of Agrani Bank in Old Dhaka on Monday without the help of police. They could not do it before.

So where is the rule of law? And what is the role of law enforcement?

Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, a professor of law at Dhaka University, said: ''But here two important aspects of the government are involved. MP and Navy officer 7 The government thinks that it is better for the naval officer to take a stand now. So we can see the campaign or action. Otherwise, I would not have seen. The same happened in the case of the murder of Major (Retd.) Sinha. How many crossfires has happened before that? Was any action taken? "

Analysts say there are many more like Haji Selim and Erfan Selim. They also have an empire. Their story will not be published until they are in conflict with any other powerful party in the state. Casinos or papyrus cases have been revealed for the same reason. Shahed and Sabrina have been arrested for corruption in the health department. But nothing happened to the original leaders. They think that law enforcement does not work for the people here. They work for power. Only in the conflict of power do they become active on one side, not for ordinary people. Sheikh Hafizur Rahman said, "If nominations are sold for crores of rupees, how can the common man get redressal of injustice against them. It takes power to get the remedy here. The one who has more power does injustice. Again, if there is power, he also gets remedy. This is not called rule of law. The rule of law is the same for the rich, the poor, the teachers, the police."

The news media also printed in big words what the police said after the incident. No report has been seen before them. When Haji Selim's son beat up a naval officer, many media outlets did not report it. However, when the RAB went into action on Monday afternoon, they published a report. "It's a big failure of the media," said Prabhas Amin, head of ATN News. ''There are probably many reasons behind this. There may be many interests. But it is also true that the media has never identified the bad guy as good," he added.

However, the government believes that it is necessary to find out the background of an influential person when he or she misbehaves. And then many crimes came out. It is not known all the time State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said, "Many other incidents, including casinos, have come to light at the initiative of the government. Action has been taken However, not everything is known all the time. The government will take action if it finds out."

Would these influential people be covered by the law if they were not involved in criminal activities with members of any force or other influential people? Their achievements would come out? Ordinary people would get the remedy? "It's a culture from the past," he said. Many people in this society do not express much. But Sheikh Hasina's government is trying to get out of it."
