The Way Ruling Awami League Looking at Statements of Prominent Citizens!

The statements made by 42 prominent citizens accusing the Election Commission of serious misconduct and corruption in Bangladesh has caused a great deal of controversy in the political arena.

Alleging that there was a political motive behind such a statement, the Awami League leaders said that they would deal with the issue through political tactics.

Opposition parties, on the other hand, welcomed the statement against the BNP Election Commission.

Three days ago, 42 prominent citizens made statements against the Election Commission and wrote a letter to the President demanding the formation of a Supreme Judicial Council.

Allegations of failure to conduct elections against the Election Commission are very old.

Now 42 prominent citizens have brought forward allegations of corruption including financial irregularities against the commission.

Some senior Awami League leaders have accused the Election Commission of having links with the BNP.

The party's presidium member and minister Dr Abdur Razzak said they had discussed the issue at the highest level of their party.

They think that now all of a sudden this statement has been made for political purposes. Dr. Razzak noted that they had doubts about whether all the signatories had signed the statement knowing all the details.

He said, "Those who have made statements have been silent on many important issues of the nation for a long time. The sculpture of the Father of the Nation has been vandalized by fanatical groups and anti-independence forces a few days ago. This statement was brought with a new element. There is a political motive behind it. "

On the other hand, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir thanked prominent citizens for the statement.

However, he said, "We have been saying the words of 42 people for a long time. The Election Commission has been biased in everything, including the 2016 elections and the subsequent local government elections. "I've been saying this for years."

He said the Awami League leaders denied the truth and were now judging everything from one-sided political thinking.

Leaders of the two main parties have been exchanging views on the issue.

However, the Election Commission is also looking at the politics behind the allegations of 42 prominent citizens including Professor Sirajul Islam Chowdhury, Sultana Kamal and Badiul Alam Majumder.

Retired Brigadier Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury, an election commissioner, said they had protested against the allegations in a couple of newspapers. But all those allegations have now been brought to the fore.

The big question for the Awami League leaders is the demand for the formation of the Supreme Judicial Council.

In 2016, the power to remove judges was taken over by Parliament through the 16th amendment to the constitution. SK Sinha was the Chief Justice at that time. Under his leadership, the Appellate Division abolished that power in Parliament and returned it to the Supreme Judicial Council. The government's review appeal against this is in the Appellate Division.

Awami League leaders have said that since the matter is now under consideration, there is no Judicial Council in the country and they think that a new debate is being tried on this issue.

Awami League leader Dr Razzak said, "There was a lot of controversy about the Supreme Judicial Council three years ago. Now there is no such council in the country. Even then, such a council has been formed to remove the Election Commission. There is a motive behind it - it is clear."

But Badiul Alam Majumder, one of the spokespersons, said they demanded action against the president in accordance with the law.

"Investigative reports have been published in the media against the Election Commission at various times. Even an Election Commissioner has accused the Chief Election Commissioner of corruption. These are our foundations. We have not investigated ourselves. These are our allegations. We have drawn the President's attention to the allegations. He took action. If he finds this to be true, he should take action. We have applied following the provisions mentioned in the constitution. "

The other two prominent citizens who signed the statement said they doubted any action would be taken on the basis of their application.

But considering the seriousness of the allegation, they made this statement with the aim of making it public.
