All internet-based websites including social media are going to be monitored nonstop 24/7. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has formed a special cell for this purpose. This monitoring cell can quickly remove any link or content that goes viral.

The matter has been confirmed by the chairman of the regulatory body Shyam Sundar Sikder.

The telecom regulator wants to keep an eye on all kinds of "offensive" content, including "anti-state and anti-government" through websites and social media through the newly formed Cyber Security Cell.

Besides, the cell will also work to keep a constant watch on provocative and extremist content on social, political, pornographic, cultural or religious issues.

Earlier, the BTRC had taken action against law enforcement agencies, intelligence agencies and various government agencies for regularly requesting the removal of "offensive" content. From now on, steps will be taken on self-initiative through this cell. Initially, work has started, said Shyam Sundar Sikder, chairman of the commission.
