6 days Eid Holiday For Media Workers

Journalists, officers, and employees working in newspapers have received 6 consecutive days-off on the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to the custom, journalists enjoy three days-off every year from 29 Ramadan to Eid. When 30 days of Ramadan are completed, this holiday becomes four days. As per that the maximum holiday is scheduled to be from April 9 to 12.

However, this time, one day after the Eid holiday, April 14 is Pohela Boishakh, and the media is again going to fall into the benefit of the government-scheduled holiday. Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has decided to declare a special holiday on April 13 for this.

An official announcement was made in this regard after the NOAB’s meeting on Saturday (April 6). As a result, media workers got 6 consecutive days off from April 9 to 14.

But this time the Eid holiday is a unique record of 6 days. Because after independence, the press was never closed for 6 days.

When asked to know, NOAB’s treasurer and editor-in-chief of Manab Zamin Matiur Rahman Chowdhury said that “this time since Pohela Boishakh falls with a gap of one day between the Eid holidays, a special holiday is being given in between”.
