Grameenphone has contributed BDT 30 crore to the Bangladesh Labor Welfare Foundation for the Protection of Workers during the COVID-19 Challenges.
The three-member Grameenphone delegation headed by its Chief Human Resources Officer, CHRO Syed Tanvir Husain, handed over the funds to the Secretary of the Ministry, Mr K. M. Abdus Salam, at the Secretariat.
Grameenphone had been regularly contributing a certain portion of its profits to the Bangladesh Workers Welfare Foundation.
As the highest contributor to this fund, Grameenphone has so far deposited TK 151.61crore.
Under Bangladesh Labour Law, domestic and international companies pay one-tenth of 5% of their profits to this fund at the end of the year.
So far, 165 companies, like Grameenphone, have contributed some of their profits to this fund. Such funds are invested on the welfare of workers in the formal and informal sectors.
