Kick-Off Meeting on BD-Japan Joint Economic Dialogue Held

A kick-off meeting on 5th Bangladesh-Japan Public-Private Joint Economic Dialogue (PPED) took place virtually on Monday (25 August) as part of the arrangements for the dialog to be conducted by December of this year.

The meeting was held with the intention of having a dialogur by December 2020 to revisit the decisions on which both countries decided in the 4th PPED to address issues that impede the expansion of trade and investment between the two countries and to emphasize the further enhancement of investment and trade cooperation, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) sources.

Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Kaikaus presided over the virtual meeting.

Officials with the ranks of additional secretary and joint secretary of the ministries involved attended the PMO conference in the city, while senior Japanese government officials and business representatives entered the Tokyo gathering.

Alongside the Principal Coordinator (SDG), Bangladesh's recently named Ambassador to Japan, Bangladesh's Economic Minister and Commercial Councilor Embassy in Tokyo, the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh and Economic Councilor and Japan's Second Secretary Embassy in Dhaka participated in the meeting.

Besides, Deputy Director General for Trade Policy of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Investment led the participating team from Japan while representatives of foreign and other ministries of Japan and chief of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) office in Bangladesh also joined the meeting.

As private sector representatives, presidents of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) and Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and chief executive of BUILD took part in the meeting.
