Number of Internet Users Crosses 103 Million in Bangladesh

The total number of internet subscribers in the country stood at 103,476 million as of June 2020, according to figures from the telecommunications regulator.

According to Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) numbers, there were 94,905 million mobile Internet users and 8,571 million broadband Internet users in the country.

Previously, the total number of internet subscribers in the country was 99,428 million before December 2019 and the BTRC data was further disclosed.

Among the subscribers, 93,681 million were cell Internet users and 5,742 million were fixed Internet users before December 2019, while the rest were WiMAX users.

As per the BTRC data, the number of internet users was 91.421 million at the end of January 2019.

Bangladesh has witnessed a boom in Internet usage on the back of fast-growing mobile Internet and the government's drive for digitalisation.

The BTRC has calculated ISP subscriber information through intensive market analysis, consultation, and data collection from almost all ISPs.

It should be remembered that owing to the high number of ISP providers and the relatively small monthly cost of fixed internet connections, details on ISP and PSTN broadband users is being published on a quarterly basis.
