Bangladesh Global Clothing Exports Share Rises to 6.8pc: WTO

Bangladesh's share of global apparel exports rose by 0.4 percentage points to 6.8 per cent in 2019, after a marginal decline in the previous year, according to the latest figures from the World Trade Organisation ( WTO).

According to experts, the potential posed by the US-China trade war and the downturn in the global economy has improved Bangladesh's market share.

Economists often agree that China's change has allowed Bangladesh to reap further from the export market. The nation currently holds a 7% share of the global apparel market and continues to expand.

However, Bangladesh 's imports of textiles from the global market have decreased by about 6.80 per cent in the last year.

It has revealed that Bangladesh manufactured textiles worth USD 9.91 billion in 2019, which contributed to about USD 11.0 billion in 2018.

The World Trade Statistical Review 2020 released by the WTO last week in Geneva published these figures.

The WTO 's comprehensive statistical study aims at the recent changes in international markets and offers a thorough overview of the current patterns in equity in products and services.
