International Mother Language Day Observed at GUB

The historic International Mother Language Day was observed at Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) on Sunday (21 February 2021) with paying tribute to the martyrs of the language movement, who laid down their lives for the mother tongue in 1952. 

In the early morning, a number of faculty members and students rallied and placed floral wreaths at the Dhaka Central Shaheed Minar as well as GUB Shaheed Minar led by Vice-Chancellor and Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

In celebration of the day, the GUB family organized a discussion seminar and cultural show via a virtual platform. Well-known writer, thinker, critic, and public intellectual Professor Salimullah Khan was the chief guest of the seminar.

Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Vice-Chancellor of GUB presided over the virtual seminar while Prof. Dr. Md. Abdur Razzaque, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GUB spoke as special guest. Professor. Dr. Md. Fayzur Rahman, Honorable Treasurer, Md Saiful Islam, Registrar (Acting); Professor Dr. Golam Ahmed Faruqui, Dean of Faculty of Business Studies spoke as guest of honor.

In the discussion, all the speakers including Salimullah Khan expressed their solidarity to victims of language movement who lost their lives during 1952.

A cultural event on mother language movement was performed before the audience. Faculty member of different departments, university students, club activists and GUB officials took part in the program.
