Plastic Products Export Increased by 30 Percent

At present, the country's export market for plastic products is expanding rapidly to meet the huge domestic demand. In the first five months of the current fiscal year 2021-22 (July-November), the export revenue from the sale of plastic products in the international market was US 57 ​​million dollars, which is about 30 percent more than the same period of the previous fiscal year.

In the last fiscal year 2020-21, the export of plastic products was 4 crore 39 lakh dollars. The current fiscal year has a target of 130 million dollars in export earnings from plastic products.  

President of Bangladesh Plastic Products Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) Shamim Ahmed said Bangladesh's plastic products are going directly to 23 countries of the world including the United Kingdom, United States, Germany, France, Poland, Spain, and Canada. Everything from home furnishings to automobiles, medical equipment, or accessories for the export industry are being made of plastic. Plastic toy made with a combination of technology is also eye-catching.

He said that many countries are now leaning towards plastic products of Bangladesh by reducing their dependence on China. That is why the export of Bangladeshi products in the global market is constantly increasing.

The BPGMEA president said the coronavirus epidemic had created a fragile situation in the plastics sector as well as in other industries. But due to timely implementation of government measures and implementation of incentive package, the plastics sector along with other industries has also turned around. As trade and commerce continue to be normal at the global level, its benefits are being reaped in Bangladesh's exports.

He thinks that if the prices of raw materials in the international market had not gone up, the export earnings would have been higher.

Shamim Ahmed said that besides direct plastic products, plastic products worth 70 crore dollars a year are being exported as garments accessories. At present, it is impossible to export any product without the plastic wrap and garment accessories.

According to BPGMEA, about 15 categories of products are currently produced in 5,000 factories across the country. These include polybags, hangers, plastic clips, buttons, dolls in toys, balls, chairs for home use, tables, dining tables, various types of racks, baskets, bathtubs, jugs, mugs, paperweights for office use, scales, Table, ballpoint pen, file cover are some of them.

Pipes, bicycle parts including bumpers, handle covers, backlights, spoke lights, fish and egg baskets, video and audio cassettes, computer equipment, and various types of plastic materials are being manufactured for the agricultural sector.
