Shahriar Urges Moroccan Business Community to Invest in Bangladesh

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam has urged Moroccan business community to invest in Bangladesh taking advantage of the attractive incentives Dhaka offers to foreign investors, reports UNB.   

He underscored the need for institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and Morocco to promote trade and business and urged the business communities of both countries to make formal agreements in this regard.

The state minister recently visited the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) in Casablanca and discussed areas of cooperation to enhance trade relations between the two countries, according to a message received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.

He was accompanied by a Bangladesh business delegation and Bangladesh Ambassador to Morocco Shahdat Hossain at the meeting held recently. 

CGEM´s President Chakib Ali received the Bangladesh delegation. 

Shahriar stated that Bangladesh has made huge strides in the socioeconomic sectors during the last decade and maintained a robust economic growth. 

He informed the CGEM authorities that his delegation witnessed the logistics facilities offered at Tangiers Med Port as well as the incentives provided by the Moroccan investment development authorities. 

The state minister observed that Bangladesh´s cooperation with Moroccan port authorities has ample potential to facilitate the mutual trade and business.  

The Moroccan side proposed that Bangladeshi businesspeople could explore the sectors like textiles, leather, pharmaceuticals, IT in Morocco for joint collaboration. 

The both sides agreed to identify exportable and importable items for promotion of trade between the two countries. 

They also emphasized the exchanges of trade delegations.  

The Moroccan businesspeople promised to find out the ways and means for connecting e-commerce sectors of the two countries.   

Earlier, Shahriar had talks with the Director-General of Office of the Cherifien des Phosphates (OCP), Mostafa Terrab, at his office in Casablanca.  

They reviewed the production and delivery of phosphate fertilizer to Bangladesh. 

Morocco is an important source of fertilizer for Bangladesh. Bangladesh has been importing fertilizer from Morocco through office of OCP for a long time.
