Jewellers in the country have raised gold prices by Tk1,750 per bhori.

Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) came up with the decision on Tuesday after the rates went up in the international and local bullion markets, reports media.

The revised prices will be effective from Wednesday, said a press release issued by the association.

According to the new rate, 22-carat (11.664gm) gold will cost Tk 78,265.

According to the press release, the new prices are based on rising gold prices in the bullion market as well as the rise in the value of the dollar and other currencies owing to the global economic crisis.

Under the new rates, the local markets will sell 21-carat gold at Tk 74,707 per bhori and 18-carat gold at Tk 64,035 per bhori.

Meanwhile, the price for traditional method gold has been set at Tk 53,362 per bhori.

However, BAJUS has kept the price of silver unchanged. Each bhori of 22-carat silver will be sold at Tk 1,516, while 21-carat and 18-carat silver are still available at Tk 1,435 and Tk 1,225, respectively.

BAJUS has urged all jewellery businesses in the country to sell gold at new rates until further notice.

Earlier, the price of 22-carat gold fell by Tk 2,332 in two phases in two weeks.

On May 10, the prices of gold fell by Tk 1,166 to Tk 76,515 a bhori in the local market.

Then, 22-carat gold was sold at Tk 76,515 per bhori, 21-carat gold at Tk 73,016, and 18-carat gold was sold at Tk 62,635 per bhori in the local market.

The price for the traditional method gold was decreased by Tk 875 to Tk 52,196 per bhori.
