To
discourage imports considering the current situation, three to thirty percent
regulatory duty has been imposed on 68 products. Of these, new tariffs have
been imposed on some products, and tariffs have been increased on other products.
The
list of these products includes biscuits, chocolates, fruits, juices, foreign-made garments, furniture and furniture making raw materials, car and
car engines, parts, rods and iron products, cement raw material 'fly ash',
cosmetics etc.
The
National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a notification in this regard on
Tuesday (May 24) morning and it has been implemented as per the rules.
New
regulatory tariffs have been imposed on products that include wood and iron
furniture and furniture raw materials at a rate of 20 per cent; 30 percent in
private cars in CKD condition; 20 percent in pickup and double cabin pickup
vans and 15 percent in car engines. Besides, 3 to 10 percent duty has been
imposed on tires, rims etc.
Besides,
3 to 10 percent regulatory duty has been levied on rods, billets etc. used as
raw materials for construction materials. A 5 per cent regulatory duty has been
imposed on the import of fly ash, one of the raw materials in the cement
sector.
On
the other hand, for perfumes, hair and skin care products, shaving products,
etc., will have to pay 20 percent regulatory duty.
Imports
of oxygen, nitrogen, argon, first aid kits were also subject to 15 per cent
regulatory duty. Fiber optic and various types of cables are taxed at 3 to 10
percent.
Besides,
20 per cent regulatory duty has been imposed on various fruits including mango,
apple, watermelon and almond. The NBR took steps to discourage imports by
imposing a 25 per cent regulatory duty on rice (husked).
