For the month of August, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will cost Tk 94.96 per kilogram, up from Tk 83.25 in July.

The new pricing was published by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), who stated that retail consumers will now pay Tk 1,140 including VAT for a 12kg LPG cylinder as opposed to Tk 999 at the previous price.

At a press conference on Wednesday at the BERC headquarters in Dhaka, Md Nurul Amin, the chairman of BERC, stated that prices for various sizes of LPG cylinders, ranging from 5.5kg to 45kg, will increase logically.

The new pricing will take effect at 6 p.m. this evening, August 2, 2023.

In accordance with the BERC judgment, "auto gas" (LPG used for motor vehicles) is now Tk 52.17 per litre (including VAT) as opposed to Tk 46.59 per litre.

Since LPG is manufactured domestically and has a market share of less than 5%, its price will remain the same. LPG is marketed by the state-owned LP Gas Company.

According to BERC authorities, the local market's LPG price decreased as a result of the drop in Saudi CP (contract price) costs.

On the basis of Saudi CP, Bangladeshi LPG operators often import their goods from the Middle Eastern market.

LPG witnessed the highest price at Tk 1,498 (per 12kg cylinder) in the local market in February this year following the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February last year.
