Govt Changed The Decision To Increase The Price Of Sugar

Considering the suffering of the people, the Ministry of Industry has postponed the decision to increase the price of sugar.

This information was revealed by the ministry on Thursday (February 22) evening.

Earlier, the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industry Corporation (BSFIC) had raised the maximum retail price of government milled sugar by Tk 20 per kg to Tk 160 per kg at noon. The millgate rate has also been increased at the same rate.

According to a notification of BSFIC, the selling price of sugar produced by BSFIC has been revised in line with the international and domestic market price of sugar. From now on, the Millgate selling price of 50 kg of bagged sugar of the corporation has been fixed at Tk 150 (one kg) and at dealer level at Tk 157 (one kg).

Apart from this, the selling price of one kg of packaged sugar of the corporation is 155 taka in millgate or corporate supershop; Besides, the maximum retail price is fixed at Tk 160 in various supershops, basements of sugar industry buildings and markets.

However, a few hours after this announcement by BSFIC, the Ministry of Industries postponed the decision to increase the price of sugar, thinking about the public suffering.

Earlier, BSFIC had fixed the price of packaged sugar at Rs 140 per kg.
