Govt Approves 39000 Metric Tons Onion Import

About 39 thousand metric tons of onions have been allowed to be imported through Sona Masjid land port of Chapainawabganj. 31 importers of this port can import these onions.

Somir Ghosh, deputy director of Sona Mosque plant Quarantine Station, gave this information on Tuesday (March 5) morning.

Somir Ghosh said that 31 importers of Sona Masjid land port have received permission to import onions between the last week of February and March 4. They can import 39 thousand metric tons of onions.

In response to the question of when onion import can start, he said that no specific date has been decided in this regard so far. However, onion import will start through this port before the Holy Ramadan.

Meanwhile, onions are currently being sold at Tk 105 to Tk 110 per kg in the markets of Chapainawabganj. Traders said that if the import of onion from India starts before fasting, the price will come down.
