Due to an unexpected increase in prices, the government has set prices for dates during the holy month of Ramadan. It has been directed that common or lower quality dates will be sold at a range of 150 to 165 taka per kg, while the widely used Jahidi dates will be sold at a range of 170 to 180 taka per kg.

This information has been disclosed in a notice signed by Senior Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Moza Fuara Khatoon, on Tuesday (March 12).

The notice states that after analyzing the imported prices of various types of dates, imposed duties and taxes, and other expenses of importers, the Ministry of Commerce has determined the value-based rational price of dates per kg.

Earlier, on March 10, the Director-General of the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, A H M Safiquzzaman, had informed that the Ministry of Commerce would adjust the prices of jihadist dates within two to three days to ensure the welfare of consumers. In addition, other types of dates will also be monitored through discussions with importers.
