In anticipation of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivities, Bangladesh Bank has announced that bank branches will remain open for three consecutive days to facilitate crucial financial transactions for the garment industry and its workforce.

This decision is aimed at ensuring punctual payments of salaries, bonuses, and allowances to workers, as well as the processing of export bills. As outlined in a circular from the Department of Offsite Supervision (DOS) of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday, designated bank branches in industrial areas such as Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram will operate on April 5, 6, and 7.

The circular underscores the importance of supporting financial activities related to the garment industry before Eid-ul-Fitr, emphasizing the need for timely payments to workers and the selling of export bills.

To facilitate these transactions, scheduled banks will operate with reduced staff and heightened security measures. Banking operations during these three days will adhere to specific time frames. On April 5, transactions will occur from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, with a break for Friday prayers from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.

Similarly, on April 6 and 7, banking transactions will run from 9:30 am to 1 pm, with a brief break for Zohar prayer from 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm on both days.

This proactive step by Bangladesh Bank underscores its commitment to supporting the garment industry, a crucial sector of the country's economy, during the festive period. By facilitating financial transactions and ensuring timely payments, the central bank aims to contribute to a smooth and prosperous Eid-ul-Fitr for all stakeholders involved.
