Chicken and Beef Prices Soar, Vegetable Stabilize

In anticipation of the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the prices of beef and broilers, along with all types of chicken, have increased. Broiler chicken prices have risen by 40 taka per kilogram within the week, now selling at 240 to 245 taka per kilogram. Meanwhile, beef prices are fluctuating between an additional 50 to 100 taka per kilogram. However, vegetable prices have returned to normal in the markets.

As of today, Friday, April 5th, various markets in the capital have provided information. In different markets of the capital, broiler chickens are being sold at 240 to 245 taka per kilogram, compared to last week's prices of 200 to 205 taka. Additionally, golden chicken is being sold at 340 taka per kilogram, hybrid chicken at 320 taka, country chicken at 650 to 680 taka, layer chicken at 340 taka, and white layer chicken at 320 taka.

Leading up to Eid, chicken prices are expected to rise further, according to Sohel, a chicken seller. Compared to last week, wholesale markets are witnessing an increase of 20 to 30 taka per kilogram across all types of chicken. This rise in wholesale prices is affecting retail markets as well.

On the other hand, despite being sold at 750 taka per kilogram last week, beef is now being sold at 800 taka per kilogram. In some places, even with a reduction in supply, beef is being sold at 800 taka per kilogram. This indicates an increase of 50 to 100 taka per kilogram compared to the previous week.

Other items in the markets include:

- A dozen red eggs for 125 taka

- Duck eggs for 180 taka per dozen

- Local chicken eggshells for 85 taka

Additionally, seasonal vegetables are being sold at varying prices:

- Coccinia (Kochur Mukhi) for 80 taka per kilogram

- Eggplant for 30 to 50 taka

- Bitter gourd for 70 taka

- Pointed gourd for 60 taka

- Zucchini for 60 taka

- Pumpkin for 80 taka

- Mustard for 70 taka

- Ash gourd for 30 to 50 taka

- Radish for 40 taka per kilogram

- Bell pepper for 30 to 40 taka each

- Broccoli for 30 taka

- Coriander leaves for 200 to 220 taka per kilogram

- Cauliflower for 40 taka

- Sweet pumpkin for 40 to 50 taka per kilogram

- Green chili for 80 to 120 taka per kilogram

Additionally, leafy greens are being sold at the following prices:

- Red spinach for 10 taka

- Bottle gourd leaves for 30 taka

- Radish leaves for 15 taka

- Spinach for 10 to 15 taka

- Water spinach for 10 taka

Other items include fish, shrimp, and various seafood:

- Hilsa fish (400 grams) for 900 taka per kilogram

- Various sizes of shrimp for 350 to 600 taka per kilogram

- Rui fish (various sizes) for 400 to 550 taka per kilogram

- Magur fish for 700 to 1,000 taka

- Mrigel fish for 300 to 450 taka

- Catfish for 200 to 220 taka

- Prawn for 800 to 1,200 taka

- Carp for 500 to 900 taka

- Tilapia for 220 taka

- Climbing perch for 220 to 240 taka

- Mullet for 500 taka

- Koi fish for 500 to 600 taka

- Mola fish for 50 taka

- Air-breathing catfish for 1,600 taka

These are the current market conditions in various markets of the capital city.
