BD Water Price Rises; Following Electricity Price Growth

Soon after electricity price hiked in Bangladesh, the country’s water supply rate also increased at a level as per an order that has been issued. 

The decision will take effect from April 1st.

The official order signed by Mohammad Saidur Rahman Deputy Secretary of the local government department yesterday has raised the price of water. The order states that the price of residential water supplied by Dhaka WASA has been increased to Tk 14.46 instead of Tk 11.57 per thousand liters. And at the commercial level— the price of water has been increased to Tk 40 instead of Tk 37.04 per thousand liters.


Similarly, the price of Chittagong WASA— at residential level— has been increased to Tk 12.40 instead of Tk 9.92 per thousand liters. And at the commercial level— the price of water has been increased to Tk 30.30 instead of Tk 27.56 per thousand liters.

WASA authorities said that a large part of the cost of running the pumps goes to the electricity sector. The decision has been made to balance the costs of both sectors.
