E-Commerce Providers Allowed to Deliver Food Items

The government has allowed e-commerce providers to deliver food items, books, electronic gadgets, and clothing to customers' doorstep by taking adequate security steps.

The Ministry of Commerce issued a notice in this respect, saying that a measure has been taken to make people's lives easier during Ramadan.

"The kitchens of certain restaurants that have arrangements with various suppliers of e-commerce should be permitted to stay open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.," says the notice.

E-commerce providers have been required to send a sample of the restaurants for which they operate to the Deputy Commissioners concerned.

Deliverymen, vehicles engaged in delivery, and all those engaged in the process can conduct their normal activities,  the notice adds.

But the authorities reaffirmed its previous statement not to allow taking food at restaurants.

The notice urged the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (ECAB) to provide its representatives with identification cards and the requisite training on proper health care.

Meanwhile, Secretary-General of the ECAB, Abdul Wahed, asked their representatives to collect the appropriate documentation from them to operate their business.

Bangladesh has announced the closing of all educational schools, offices, and stores to enforce a full shutdown in the country in order to prevent the widespread transmission of coronavirus.

Earlier, the authorities allowed internet service providers to supply essential items on a limited scale.
