Jewellers in the country on Saturday increased gold prices by Tk 4,200 to Tk 82,465 a bhori (11.664 grams), just four days after they hiked the prices of the precious metal, reports media.

Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) announced the price hike in all types of gold as the rates went up in the international and local bullion markets, said a press release issued by the association.

The fresh prices are based on rising gold prices in the bullion market as well as the rise in the value of the dollar and other currencies owing to the global economic crisis, said BAJUS.

The new prices will be effective from Sunday.

According to the new rate, 22-carat gold will cost Tk 82,465, which was Tk 78,265 per bhori.

Besides, the local market will sell 21-carat gold at Tk 78,732 from Tk 74,707 per bhori and 18-carat gold at Tk 67,535 from Tk 64,035 per bhori.

Meanwhile, the price for traditional method gold has been set at Tk 56,220, which was Tk 53,362 per bhori.

However, BAJUS has kept the price of silver unchanged.

Each bhori of 22-carat silver will be sold at Tk 1,516, while 21-carat and 18-carat silver are still available at Tk 1,435 and Tk 1,225 respectively.

Earlier on May 17, the price of 22-carat gold rose by Tk 1,750 to Tk 78,265 per bhori.

On May 10, the prices of gold fell by Tk 1,166 to Tk 76,515 a bhori in the local market.
