Uncertainty in fulfilling IMF conditions as fuel price adjustments yet to be finalised

The government wants to regularly adjust the prices of diesel, petrol, octane and fuel oil in line with the world market. Initially it was planned to schedule every three months. However, now the government is thinking about fixing the price every month.

Until now, the pricing formula has not been finalised. So it may not start since September.

However, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has set the conditions for automatic regular adjustment of fuel prices from September next month.

Sources at the Ministry of Energy told a local daily that Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has prepared a formula for determining the price. The energy department has not yet given any final instructions on this.
