Three Dhaka University teachers today expressed solidarity with the students, who are on hunger strike since Thursday, demanding deferral of Dhaka north and south city corporation elections as January 30 coincides with Saraswati Puja.

The teachers are: Gobinda Mandal of Law department, Nepal Chandra Roy of Mathematics department and Dr Mukul Kumar Baroi of Sculpture department, Faculty of Fine Art.  Nepal Chandra is also a residential teacher of Jagannath Hall.

Expressing solidarity, the trio sat with the students on hunger strike at the base of Anti-terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus around 12pm.

DU Vice-chancellor Prof M Akhtaruzzaman yesterday also expressed solidarity with the protesters and urged the Election Commission to hold the polls on a different date.
