Coronavirus: DU to Decide on Closure Monday

Authorities at Dhaka University (DU) will sit in an emergency meeting on Monday to take a call on postponing instructional practices amid concerns of coronavirus.

DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr. Md Akhtaruzzaman told reporters on Sunday that the decision will be made considering the national interest. “We’ll decide what to do to tackle the situation,” he said.

Deans of the faculty, administrators of all institutes, heads of all divisions and provosts of the hall were invited to join the emergency meeting at 10 a.m., said the VC who would preside over the conference.

Meanwhile, the Dhaka University Central Students Union (Ducsu) has proposed that the university be briefly shut down or that summer holidays be declared a little sooner.

It submitted a memorandum to the VC after a meeting in this regard.

Besides, the DU Teachers’ Association and Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association also issued separate statements expressing concerns over the coronavirus outbreak and the demanding shutdown of universities.
