IU Running without VC, Treasurer

Academic and administrative activities at the Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia are seriously hindered as the positions of vice-chancellor and treasurer have remained vacant for one month, officials said.

The tenure of IU VC Professor Dr Rashid Askari and Treasurer Professor Dr M Selim Toha expired on 20 August, reports UNB.  

Since then, the university authorities have continued their academic activities via online classes during the coronavirus pandemic.

If the authorities concerned do not appoint a VC or Treasurer, the salaries of the teachers, officers and staff of the university can not be disbursed, said IU Officers Association Member Secretary M Abdul Hannan.

IUTA President Kazi Akhtar Hossain said that the government should appoint a competent and experienced person as a VC from the Islamic University.

University sources say that a number of senior teachers are lobbying for the position of vice-chancellor and treasurer.
