Govt to Hire for 12,600 Posts to Promote Job-Oriented Education

The government has decided to hire over three prosecutors for some 12,600 positions in technical colleges and polytechnics to facilitate job-oriented education in Bangladesh.

All the requisite paperwork required for the issuance of a government order paving the way for the development of 12,607 positions in the technical education sector, 1,061 cadre posts and 11,546 non-cadre posts, were completed and sent to PMO. UNB has learned that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently approved the proposal with her consent. 

The step aims at addressing the acute shortage of manpower under the Technical and Madrasa Education Division in 113 government institutions, 49 polytechnics and 64 technical colleges, the officials said.

There are 20 vice principal positions out of 1,061 permanent system positions (Grade-5 in the National Pay-scale, 2015), 169 chief instructors (technical, Grade-6), 57 chief instructors (non-technical, Grade-6), 510 instructors (technical, Grade-9) and 305 instructors (non-technical, Grade-9.

"Dr. Md Omar Faruque, additional secretary of the Technical and Madrasa Education Division, said," The recruitment of over 12,000 posts will take place in three financial years, beginning with this fiscal year.

"The government is creating the posts in the technical schools and colleges that are currently run by one-third of staff to resolve the acute manpower crisis, he said." Following the recruitment, teaching standards and enrollment rates are expected to increase.

Dr Omar Faruque said the move is part of the government's priority of supporting technical and vocational education to produce skilled labor for the new work markets at home and abroad.

Experts agree that, as there is a strong demand for skilled workers abroad, the initiative to encourage job-oriented education would have a positive effect on the international jobs of Bangladeshi workers and the inflow of remittances.

The Ministry of Public Administration had previously accepted a plan to establish 13,072 posts. The Finance Division later decided on the creation of 12,607 posts in the revenue sector. The pay scale for the posts was also set by the Finance Division.
